Setting up a Chest Tube🫁 Chest tubes can be used for many different reasons. They help remove whatever is preventing the lung from fully inflating — this could be air, blood, fluid (effusion), or even pus from an infection trapped between the lung and the chest wall. A chest tube is placed to clear that space, allowing the lung to expand and the patient to breathe more easily.
