Stop letting your kids manipulate you. Let's use an example to illustrate this … In this example, your 5-year-old kicked their 3-year-old sister. I would have a consequence. Usually it’s a short two minute chore within 15 minutes of being asked to do so, so in this case it could be sweeping the kitchen floor, which I’m assuming you’ve shown them how to do. Once you’ve asked them to do the consequence, just set the timer for 15 minutes and your focus is just about being a timekeeper. Allow them t

Personally, I don’t recommend discussing bad behaviour with kids. You deal with it, you say that was bad, here's your consequence if they are three and older, and then stop talking about it. Parents tend to want to focus on and put their energy into discussing what kids shouldn't do. I don't do that. When you discuss bad behaviour, you're berating and bullying, they already understand it. The more you talk about it, the more likely they are to do it again. I focus on the good kid, not the bad be

How do I approach discipline for kids ages 3-12? Here’s my general approach … Usually I would start with the BratBusters Behaviour Board which has a rule and consequences for everyone in the family three and older. With calm leadership parenting I believe it’s about giving respect to get it and focusing on the connection with your child. Want to begin your calm leadership journey today? How to address attitude? I ignore all the attitude, but I don't ignore the words, like being told to shut up. So I would say something like, no bad words, and shut up is in the bad words department, and have “no bad words” be their rule on the BratBusters Behaviour Board. if they're under the age of three, it's a little bit different to use consistent corrective actions. If they say shut up, you say no, and then you take something away or remove them from the fun or the fun from them. But the at

What to do when your 3-year-old hits when they are mad? Here’s how I would approach this. I would wait until he is calmed down to go to the BratBusters Behaviour Board (where his rule is no hitting) and start the first positive action consequence. If he chooses not to do that first consequence and he's still screaming, I would walk over to the board (I don't care if he comes with me or I never care if they come with me, I just follow through) and I'd say, okay, so you didn't do the first one, so
