Matt's Pick of the Week: "WLS" (Chuck Olin Collection, color, c. 1969, sound) This is a nice look into the inner workings of WLS-AM 890, a Chicago-based AM radio station. It captures the station in the late 1960s when it was a major player in bringing new sounds to the airwaves; amongst other discoveries, it was the first station in the US to play material by The Beatles ("Please Please Me" on February 8, 1963). It was voted "Station of the Year" by national broadcasters in 1967, 1968, and 1969.
