Thrust SSC is a British jet car that broke the sound barrier and set the world land speed record of 1,228 km/h (763 mph) in 1997. It was driven by Andy Green, a Royal Air Force fighter pilot, in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, USA. It was powered by two Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines, as used in the F-4 Phantom II jet fighter.
