Scientists have captured a previously undocumented behaviour in orcas, recording the moment the whales rammed into a fish with enough force to break it apart. The unusual behaviour was first observed in 2024 by marine biologist Dr Kathryn Ayres of Beneath The Waves in the Gulf of California. Scientists are still investigating why the orcas do this. One possibility is that it could represent a new feeding strategy, potentially helping them provide food for younger members of their pod. Researcher
