Lots of you have been sending in your Humming-bird Hawk-moth sightings this summer! This unusual moth beats its wings an incredible 80 times per-second, which allows it to hover with humming-bird like precision over flower heads. 🌺 It is a summer visitor to the UK, coming to us all the way from Southern Europe and North Africa. 🛫 It arrives at any time from April to December, but numbers usually peak in August and September. More are seen in hotter summers and when there are southerly winds. ☀
