King tides bring some of the biggest waves of the year to the Oregon Coast and they are dramatic reminders of the ocean’s power. These extreme high tides occur a few times each winter when the sun and moon align to pull the tides higher than normal. They’re incredible to watch, but safety comes first: enjoy from a distance, stay off jetties and drift logs, and never turn your back on the waves.
