Today, the Council has adopted the EU Passenger Name Record (PNR) directive. With the aim of preventing, detecting, investigating and prosecuting serious crime and terrorism, data from flight passengers entering and leaving the EU will be collected and retained for up to 5 years though masked out after 6 months.
