The Mishnah devotes an entire tractate to discussion of the nazir, the biblical nazirite. In this course we will examine how the Mishnah understands the person and institution of the nazir. Our analysis will focus on the Mishnah's interpretations of the relevant biblical texts, alongside discussion of the mishnaic presentation of the role and status of the nazir.
