The modified Obers test is commonly restricted in people with patellofemoral pain syndrome. Cleaning this up helps to improve outcomes with these patients. The Obers test was originally thought to assess IT band tightness but after some research in cadavers we now know the primary restriction in this movement is most likely coming from the glute medius, minimus and hip capsule.
