The company’s new smartphones do not have Qi2 wireless charging built in natively. Just give me my magnetic Android phone already!

While many anticipated native Qi2 wireless charge support for the Galaxy S25 series, users will likely settle for a case and a new compatible charger coming to the market.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 series this week, offering the best features it can cram into a smartphone form factor. That includes a new Snapdragon processor, more RAM, and support for Qi2 charging.

Samsung markets the Galaxy S25 phones as "Qi2-ready". What does this mean? Well, it means that they do support wireless charging, but they do not have magnetic rings on their backs. However, if you buy one of the official or unofficial cases that do have a ring of magnets — voilà, you now have a "Qi2 phone".

On January 6th, 2025, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced we will see an acceleration of Qi2 for Android devices in 2025, with companies like Google and Samsung strongly hinting at Qi2 support for future flagships.

The world was super excited at the announcement of Qi2 back at the end of 2023, because we all assumed it would mean Apple’s MagSafe magnets inside Android phones, opening up a massive catalog of accessories that only iPhones had previously been able to use.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is here, and it brings new hardware, Qi2-compatible accessories, and a thinner and lighter frame to the table. However, it's not a significant upgrade for owners of the Galaxy S24, and even those looking to upgrade from an older phone or join the Galaxy community may want to look elsewhere.
