A Minnesota state senator will resign from office from her seat after she was found guilty Friday of burglarizing her stepmother's home, her attorney said in a statement.

Sen. Nicole Mitchell, a Woodbury Democrat who was found guilty of first-degree burglary, will resign from the Minnesota Senate, her attorney said.

The state senator for the Woodbury area will complete a few tasks over the next couple weeks before she steps down.
