Australia has summoned Russia’s ambassador to the country over reports that a Melbourne man was killed after being captured while fighting for Ukraine. Anthony Albanese said on Wednesday that his government was “gravely concerned” about Oscar Jenkins, a 32-year-old teacher, who was captured by Russian forces last year.

Australia said Wednesday that "all options are open" in its response to the reported killing of one of its citizens after his capture by Russian forces in Ukraine.

Australian broadcaster ABC and CNN’s affiliate Seven News cited Ukrainian sources suggesting that the 32-year-old soldier might have been killed. Speaking at a press conference on Jan. 15, Albanese said his government is “urgently seeking clarification” about the situation,
