An investigation has been launched into the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. The couple and their dog were found dead inside their Santa Fe, NM, home by Santa Fe County police on Wednesday afternoon.

Actor Gene Hackman died of heart disease a full week after his wife died from hantavirus in their New Mexico home, likely unaware that she was dead because he was in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s disease,

Although there was no reliable way to determine the date and time when the couple, all signs point to their deaths coming a week apart, authorities said.
