(The Center Square) – As Michiganders gear up for holiday traveling, they’ll find gas prices lower than last Christmas. According to AAA’s Michigan average, the current average for regular unleaded is $2.73 a gallon. Mid-grade comes in at $3.34, premium at $3.90, and diesel at $3.62.

Starting Jan. 1, Michigan drivers will no longer pay the state’s 6% sales tax on gasoline. Instead, a 21-cent-per-gallon fuel tax will replace it.
