The Guardians entered their weekend series against the Mariners looking to remain in contention in the American League Central Division, but instead limped out of town Sunday after being swept by a Seattle squad that had lost five of its previous six games.

Gilbert pitched to a 2.37 ERA and 2.15 FIP in his season debut, and pitched to an ERA south of 4 in three straight seasons. Despite throwing seven innings on Opening Day, however, Gilbert didn't pitch past the sixth inning in any of his following five starts.

One possible concern popped up in the seventh inning of the Padres loss when Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo dived for a Gavin Sheets ground ball and rolled overtop an awkwardly bent left wrist. He was examined by a trainer and remained in the game, but took a tentative swing in his next turn to the plate.
