A temporary restraining order was granted Monday to stop the Trump administration from cutting funding for medical and public health research at universities and research institutions across the country.

A federal judge has blocked a plan to slash reimbursement funds the National Institutes of Health provides to public universities and research centers throughout the country, a plan both the University of Washington and Washington State University say would have far-reaching effects on their research programs and likely result in layoffs.

This attempt to curtail scientific research could have long-lasting impacts for generations to come,” the state attorney general said in a statement.
