Australian opener Usman Khawaja on Wednesday scored a sublime century on a turning track in Galle, ending a 19-month wait for a triple-figure score. Khawaja credited his faith, family, and perspective beyond cricket for keeping him grounded.

Galle: Usman Khawaja etched his name alongside the legendary Donald Bradman by becoming only the second Australian aged over 38 to score a Test double-century. The Aussie opener Khawaja struck his maiden double hundred in Test cricket on day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka here on Thursday.

Khawaja joins Donald Bradman as the only two Australians over the age of 38 to hit a double century. It was a slightly smaller Galle crowd to the one that attended day one to see Steve Smith pass 10,000 runs, but the punters nevertheless rose to applaud Khawaja’s double-century under the historic city’s clearest skies of the week.
