On a stellar day for the United States ski team, Lauren Macuga got her first World Cup win in a super-G and Lindsey Vonn impressed again in fourth place at St.

No one was faster down the steep middle section of the course than Vonn, 40, making the third appearance of her surprising comeback.

“Dad,” Lauren Macuga said, “I won.” She was speaking minutes after her first Alpine skiing World Cup victory, a super-G in St. Anton, Austria. A year earlier, the best finish of Lauren’s budding career had been 17th. She steadily improved since, strengthened in particular by gym work over the summer.

Lindsey Vonn took another impressive step on the comeback trail as she finished fourth in the super-G in Sankt Anton, Austria, on Sunday, crossing the line 1.24 seconds behind first-time World Cup winner and fellow-American Lauren Macuga.

Meanwhile, U.S. teammate Lauren Macuga dazzled in the Super-G, skiing to her first career World Cup win in 1:17.51. She looked to be in disbelief as she crossed the line and saw the time, a dominant 0.68 seconds clear of Austria’s Stephanie Venier in second. Italy’s Federica Brignone took the final podium spot.
