T-Mobile has opened up emergency texting over SpaceX's Starlink satellite network for areas affected by Southern California's fires.

SpaceX is providing free Starlink internet terminals and service as LA wildfire response, along with Direct-to-cell texting for T-Mobile.

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - SpaceX launched a fresh batch of Starlink satellites Friday afternoon from Florida. The launch took place around 2:03 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Note: FOX 35's live stream of the launch is available at the top of this story.

The direct-to-cell Starlink system in Southern California will deliver wireless emergency alerts and power SMS texting to 911 services.

Those with T-Mobile service in the Los Angeles area will be able to stay connected through SpaceX's Starlink satellite service.

As fires rage in California, Musk announced that SpaceX will supply free Starlink terminals to impacted areas in Los Angeles.

SpaceX will donate free Starlink dishes to victims of the wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles. "SpaceX will provide free Starlink terminals to affected areas in LA tomorrow morning," CEO Elon Musk tweeted late last night.

The SpaceX founder said on Wednesday night that the rocket company would provide the terminals to areas hit by the huge wildfires.
