A Manhattan federal court hearing is scheduled Wednesday in a suit challenging the detention of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate student that the Trump Administration is trying to deport over his visible role in pro-Palestinian protests at the New York City university last year.

Mahmoud Khalil, a 29-year-old legal resident of the United States, was arrested and detained by federal agents Sunday, after his green card was revoked by the Trump administration.

Mahmoud Khalil's detention appears to be one of the first efforts by Trump to fulfill his promise to seek the deportation of some foreign students involved in the pro-Palestinian protest movement.
