TikTok says it will go dark on Sunday, January 19th if the Biden administration doesn’t intervene. The company says it will be “forced to go dark” on the 19th unless the outgoing administration provides a “definitive statement” assuring the app’s “most critical service providers” that they won’t be held liable for breaking the law.

The app says it will shut down Sunday unless the sitting president can assure tech companies that he won’t enforce the law.

It turns out TikTok is just as confused as the rest of us after a Supreme Court ruling this morning. SCOTUS upheld a law that would see the popular app with 170+ million U.S. users banned on Sunday. That happens to be the last day of the Biden administration,

TikTok said it will have to “go dark” this weekend unless the outgoing Biden administration assures the company it won’t enforce a shutdown of the popular app after the Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld the federal law banning the app unless it’s sold by its China-based parent company.
