The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida is seeking to join a federal lawsuit aimed at halting the construction and operation of a new immigration detention facility in the Everglades, which tribal members consider their sacred ancestral homelands.

People held at the brand new Florida immigration detention center that officials have dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” say worms turn up in the food, toilets don’t flush and floors flood with fecal waste.

Dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” the massive tent detention complex built deep in the Florida Everglades can hold 3,000 and could be the template for other facilities in other states.

Two members of President Trump's cabinet are possibly visiting Alcatraz on Thursday as the administration looks at reopening the landmark in the middle of San Francisco Bay as a prison. Kevin Ko reports.
