TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis chose Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to be the state’s next senator, serving out the final two years of Sen. Marco Rubio’s term. In an Orlando press conference, DeSantis said Moody had “a demonstrated record of delivering results” against immigration and other issues.

Moody is unabashedly a legacy-making selection for DeSantis, someone who fiercely defended the governor’s agenda during the last six years and made some of his most headline-grabbing policies possible through her legal actions.

Moody, a Tampa Bay area native, has been Florida’s attorney general since 2019. She'll hold Rubio's seat until the 2026 election.
