An investigation has been launched after a domestic violence suspect was fatally shot following a standoff with Richmond police Tuesday night.

The chase began when Alabaster police responded Tuesday night to domestic call. The suspect fled and crashed on I-459 in Hoover where authorities say he got out of his vehicle with a gun and pointed it at police.

A Farmington woman shot by her husband Sunday has died from her injuries, authorities said, while the alleged gunman died by suicide at the scene. Farmington Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin said officers were called to the area of Farmington Road and Nine Mile at about 5 p.m. Sunday for a report of an assault in progress.
