President Donald Trump has ended his predecessor's hold on sending 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, lifting a pressure point that had been meant to reduce civilian casualties during the U.S. ally's war with Hamas in Gaza that is now halted by a tenuous ceasefire.

The State Department on Friday reportedly issued guidance that it is freezing almost all U.S. foreign assistance — with exceptions for emergency food aid and foreign military financing for two U.S. allies, Israel and Egypt — according to a cable obtained by multiple outlets.

The US halts foreign aid for most countries, including Ukraine, while sparing Israel and Turkey. The directive affects military, development aid, and global health programs like PEPFAR.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s orders could force many groups working on global aid to stop their programs. And the White House has approved sending more 2,000-pound bombs to Israel.
