And with his latest signing of Tony DeAngelo, that tells us one thing: The Islanders' playoff push is still on.

Because DeAngelo is on the roster, the Islanders can waive anyone since that process takes 24 hours. They must either send down a player who is waiver-exempt (Marc Gatcomb is the likely option) or place Dobson on long-term injured reserve.

Dobson is week-to-week and won't be eligible to play before the 4 Nations Face-Off after moving to the LTIR list. He has registered six goals, 24 points, 143 shots on net, 81 blocked shots and 42 hits in 46 appearances this season.

It just so happens that a puck-moving, power-play blueliner had just become available as Tony DeAngelo had his contract terminated by the KHL's St. Petersburg.

DeAngelo had six goals and 26 assists in 34 games with the SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL before a mutual termination of his contract earlier this month to allow him to return to North America.
