A pomp-filled state funeral for the 39th president brought together all five living presidents and featured a eulogy from President Biden.

At the end of the service, Carter’s flag-draped casket was taken by motorcade to Joint Base Andrews for the return flight aboard the modified Boeing 747 that serves as Air Force 1 back to Georgia for burial in his hometown, Plains.

Gerald Ford won’t be the only person speaking beyond the grave. Carter’s vice president, Walter Mondale, also had a eulogy he wrote for Carter read by his son, Ted Mondale. Walter Mondale died in 2021 at the age of 93. He was born four years after Carter.
