As if there wasn't enough to do already, fans can probably add punter to the list of needs for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. Bryan Anger, the Cowboys’ punter for the past four seasons, is a free agent.

Regardless of why Fassel decided to leave Dallas, this is still a significant loss for the Cowboys. Under his guidance, the team has had one of the best special teams units in the NFL, and his departure leaves a substantial void that the new head coach will need to fill.

Fassel was one of Mike McCarthy’s first hires in Dallas in 2020 and helped develop Brandon Aubrey and KaVontae Turpin into All-Pro talents.

After five seasons as the special teams coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys, John Fassel left to take the same role with the Tennessee Titans. During his time with Dallas, Fassel helped unearth a couple of special teams superstars.

As the team continues its search for a head coach, multiple outlets reported Monday that John Fassel will become the next special teams coordinator for the Tennessee Titans. Fassel spent the past five seasons at the same position in Dallas, serving the entire tenure of former head coach Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy, who posted a 49-34 record with the Cowboys, tied for the eighth-best in the NFL alongside the Minnesota Vikings, leaves behind a mixed legacy. During his time in Dallas, McCarthy led the team to three straight 12-win seasons (2021-2023), a feat the Cowboys hadn't achieved since their Super Bowl-winning years of the early '90s.

The Cowboys, a day after introducing new coach Brian Schottenheimer, made another announcement on the coaching staff on Tuesday.

Fassel replaces Colt Anderson, who lasted only one season on the job as special teams coordinator. Fassel will be joined by Rayna Stewart, who followed him from Dallas as assistant special teams coach. The Titans also hired Tony Oden as passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach on defense. Luke Stocker has been promoted to tight ends coach.

The Dallas Cowboys have named Nick Sorensen their new special teams coordinator, as reported by ESPN's Todd Archer. This is the latest addition to head coach Brian Schottenheimer's staff. Sorensen joins the Cowboys following his tenure as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.
