Check out highlights from the 2025 MTV VMAs, which were hosted by LL Cool J. The big winners of the night were Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin and Busta Rhymes were also honored.
Doja Cat was a picture of ‘80s glamour in a voluminous blonde wig and embroidered, harlequin-patterned dress by Balmain. With her forthcoming album “Vie” expected to be heavily 1980s-inspired, the look was, in part, a piece of clever marketing.
Top and emerging artists will hit the stage to this year, too; Mariah Carey will perform as the 2025 Video Vanguard Award honoree. Plus, Busta Rhymes and Ricky Martin will take the mic in separate performances, as they receive the Rock the Bells Visionary Award and the Latin Icon Award, respectively.
Busta Rhymes proved his legendary hip hop status at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home the Rock the Bells Visionary Award.

A full list of winners follows. Ariana Grande, “Brighter Days Ahead” (WINNER) Billie Eilish, “Birds of a Feather” Kendrick Lamar, “Not Like Us” Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, “Die With A Smile” Rosé & Bruno Mars, “APT.” Sabrina Carpenter, “Manchild” The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, “Timeless”
Other lucky winners: Alex Warren, who may end up having the biggest single of 2025 with his chart-topper "Ordinary," took home Best New Artist; Tate McRae snatched Song of Summer for "Just Keep Watching"; and Ariana Grande won Video of the Year for "Brighter Days Ahead."
Sabrina Carpenter, who won VMAs for best pop and best album, performed her new song, “Tears.” She was accompanied onstage with dancers who carried signs calling for support for trans rights and discouraging hate.
Following the Sept. 7 show, the "Tears" singer slipped into a bodysuit made with neon straps decked out in mirrored embellishments, to host her VMAs afterparty. The outfit was originally made for Cher in 1975 for the superstar's performance of "Shame Shame Shame" with Tina Turner, who wore a shorter version of the design.
