The IRS Free File program is set to open later this week to allow eligible taxpayers to file their taxes for free using tax software partnerships.

The IRS' Free File Fillable forms, which are electronic versions of common IRS paper forms, will be accessible to all starting Jan. 27 — taxpayers who don't qualify for Free File can use the fillable forms should they feel comfortable preparing their own taxes independently.

Some of you may think it’s too early, but nevertheless, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced when the 2025 tax season officially starts. And, too, when people can expect to get their refunds. According to an IRS press release, people can begin filing their taxes on Monday, Jan. 27.
