DeepSeek is causing havoc throughout the AI industry. U.S.-based tech companies that have heavily invested in AI saw their stocks take a tumble this week after the China-based startup released a new AI model on par with OpenAI's latest model,

President Donald Trump and OpenAI chief Sam Altman weighed in on the buzz surrounding DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence startup that rocked the U.S. tech sector on Monday.

Sam Altman’s OpenAI said Chinese competitor DeepSeek could be committing intellectual property theft. DeepSeek, an emerging Chinese artificial intelligence company, sent shockwaves through the technology world when its AI model surged to the top of the app store in the United States this week.

The news comes a week into the new presidency, as Big Tech leaders including Sam Altman have been eager to work with Trump. OpenAI on Tuesday announced a new ChatGPT system for U.S. government workers that it calls more secure than its Enterprise offering.

The product is not approved for government use yet, but OpenAI of course hopes President Trump will speed things up.

OpenAI's new AI chatbot is an expansion on its flagship ChatGPT product. The new tool, ChatGPT Gov, is specifically for use by U.S. government agencies.

The sources said Altman has scheduled his trip to New Delhi for Feb. 5. One of the sources said a meeting with government officials was also on the cards. But the schedule is not finalised and his plans could still change,
