At the moment, "Spain tourist ban" is one of the biggest search trends in the entire United States. It is no secret by now, Spain is doing its part to avoid overtourism. They set a two-year ban on short-term rentals earlier in the year in Alicante.

Protesters have demanded change in popular tourist spots across Spain and visitors dining in the city of Barcelona were even squirted with water pistols last July. A ban on short-term holiday rentals in that major city is due to be implemented from 2028, with the mayor saying it will increase housing supply for residents.

The biggest change is that the EU's Entry and Exit System (EES) will finally be launched in 2025, most likely in the first half of the year.

Spain attracted a whopping 94 million tourists last year, making it one of the most visited countries on earth.

Malaga's tourist accommodation ban is also likely to be extended beyond the initial three-year term, and it is not the only part of Spain that's rolled out regulations. Alicante and Madrid have also implemented similar bands over the last year, and other Spanish cities, including Seville, are expected to follow suit.

Several protests have been held across Spain and the Canary Islands calling for tougher regulation to tackle the issues. And it seems authorities are listening. A new three-year law was introduced in Malaga this month, which has been dubbed a ‘tourist ban’ by some.
