Taiwan has added China’s tech titan Huawei and chip giant Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) to its export control list, stepping up efforts to align with Washington’s crackdown on companies driving Beijing’s artificial intelligence ambitions.

Taiwan has blacklisted Huawei Technologies Co. and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp., dealing another major blow to the two companies spearheading China’s efforts to develop cutting-edge AI chip technologies.

Both companies are already blacklisted by the US government and face sweeping American restrictions on access to advanced chips and manufacturing tools.
