Ahead of Trump's inauguration on January 20, the President-elect has said he is planning a meeting with Russia's leader, which the Kremlin has denied.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said Russia is closely monitoring the situation, after US President-elect Donald Trump refused to rule out military action to take Greenland from Denmark. Peskov said the Arctic was in Russia's "sphere of national and strategic interests and it is interested in peace and stability there".

This refers to Putin's comments last month that he was willing to engage in dialogue with Trump but reiterated Moscow's demands which include fully occupying four Ukrainian regions—Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson rejecting of Ukraine's NATO membership.
