Murders have doubled in Minneapolis since 2020, and yet city Democrats are worried about finding more bureaucrats to babysit their police department.

The newly unveiled federal consent decree for the Minneapolis Police Department calls for a lot of the same changes as an earlier state reform plan — but the oversight document does include some new requirements.

While the City of Minneapolis waits for a federal judge to sign off on a consent decree proposed by the U.S. Justice Department, Mayor Jacob Frey is stressing the positives that will flow from the 170-page agreement.

The federal consent decree, which contains many of the same proposed mandates as the city’s agreement with the state, requires the city of Minneapolis to consider policing alternatives meant to reduce racial disparities.
