Oscar Smith came within minutes of being executed before Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee issued a surprise reprieve that revealed problems with the lethal injection drugs. On Thursday, the state is prepared to try again.

Oscar Franklin Smith, 75 and sentenced to die for a triple murder in Nashville in 1989, spoke his last words from a gurney on May 22.

Killer, who spent over 30 years on Tennessee's death row, was executed for the murders of his estranged wife and her two sons.
