HILLSDALE — New Jersey was hit Tuesday with its second earthquake in three days. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 2.7 earthquake centered in Hillsdale at 12:11 p.m., three days after a magnitude 3.0 struck approximately 12 miles to the south in Hasbrouck Heights.

A magnitude 2.7 earthquake rattled parts of New York and New Jersey around midday on Aug. 5, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey. The tremor struck just over a mile southwest of Hillsdale, New Jersey, at about 12:11 p.m. ET, and had a depth of about seven miles, according to USGS. Hillsdale is about 20 miles northwest of Manhattan.

When you think of earthquake danger zones in the United States, it's unlikely that New Jersey is at the top of your list. However, the Garden State has been something of a hotbed of seismic activity this week.
