On Tuesday morning, national college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that former Utah star Alex Jensen, who’s been an assistant coach in the NBA for the past decade-plus, has emerged as a “primary candidate” for the Utes’ vacant head coaching position.

Ten days after firing Craig Smith, Utah has landed its next men's head basketball coach: Dallas Mavericks assistant Alex Jensen. The 48-year-old alum played for Rick Majerus and was on the legendary 1997-98 Runnin' Utes team that went all the way to the national title game against Kentucky.

The Utah Utes are the latest program to part ways with their head coach. On February 24th, it was announced that the Utes would be saying goodbye to their fourth-year head coach, Craig Smith. The decision came after Utah's loss to the University of Central Florida.
