YouTube's "recommended videos" tab is bringing hundreds of thousands of eyes to a video from an unknown Norweigian artist (and it's really good).

To construct the 6,291 microgenres in its database, McDonald says, Spotify uses social data—how listeners of the same artists sort those artists’ songs and who else they listen to.
