And while the elaborate costumes and overly sweet romances are enjoyable, sometimes a girl wants something with a little more teeth. Dynasty Warriors: Origins has given me exactly what I needed.

Origins is a fantastic game that, when I reviewed it, I would have raved about even more in my review had my editor let me. By far my favorite game in the series, Origins is a hack-and-slash RPG that takes place during the historic Chinese Three Kingdoms era.

Origins has a different leveling-up system than most Musou games. It’s all tied to raising proficiencies with weapons like swords or spears. When a weapon levels up then players also gain a new rank.

Origins players will need to defeat Cao Cao at the Battle of Changban if they want to unlock the true ending for Shu.
