(CNN) – Florida officials have launched a criminal investigation into the popular gaming platform Roblox. The state is accusing the company of failing to protect children from inappropriate content and online predators. Investigators said some predators have used the platform’s virtual currency to manipulate minors into sharing explicit images.

Roblox, a world-building video game, has about 40 million players under age 13 – or more than a third of its user base.

“Our initial inquiry, as well as arrests and convictions across the state, have shown that Roblox is a breeding ground for child predators to get on the platform, solicit information, locations, and ultimately abuse kids,” the Republican said on “ Fox & Friends First .”
