India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is yet to decide whether flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the Air India flight that crashed last Thursday will be sent overseas for decoding and analysis.

India will send the severely damaged black box from the ill-fated Air India Dreamliner to the United States for forensic data recovery. The move comes after Indian authorities confirmed they lacked the necessary equipment to retrieve data from fire-damaged recorders.

The aircraft crashed into the campus of a medical college in Meghaninagar moments after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 pm on June 12, killing 241 out of 242 on board as well as 29 on the ground.
