This Day in History, 1912: Pro hockey comes to Vancouver
On Jan. 5, 1912, the city of Vancouver had its first professional hockey game. The Province reported about 5,000 spectators turned out to watch Vancouver beat New Westminster 8-3 at a new 10,000 seat arena the Patrick family had built at Denman and Georgia Streets.
