With a winter storm set to impact North Texas starting early Thursday, parents and students are scrambling to stay informed about school closings. As icy roads and freezing temperatures approach, districts across the region are updating their plans.

Austin ISD continued classes as usual on Thursday but canceled outdoor sports and moved outdoor activities inside. Del Valle also canceled all outdoor activities on Thursday. IDEA Public Schools in the Austin area also shared they remain on a regular schedule Friday.

Some Central Texas schools are delaying the start of class Thursday as icy weather takes hold in some parts of the Austin area.

Lubbock and much of the South Plains are under a winter weather advisory through 6 a.m. Friday, with additional snow accumulations of an inch or less and winds gusting as high as 40 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock.

DALLAS - Dallas ISD is among several school districts in North Texas to close schools because of the winter weather. Dallas schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 10. Athletics and after-school events are also canceled. Fort Worth ISD is among the districts who have yet to announce their decisions.
