Earth’s shadow will block most of the light that illuminates the lunar surface, creating what is known as a blood moon.

Penumbral lunar eclipse – A subtle event where the Moon passes through Earth's outer shadow, causing a slight dimming.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is positioned directly between the moon and sun, blocking the sun's rays from the moon.
