It doesn’t sound like Josh McDaniels is not on the short list for Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel’s next offensive coordinator.

Josh McDaniels and Mike Vrabel were together on what came close to being regarded as the NFL's best team of all-time.

New Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has confirmed that he's considering hiring Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator, but he says there are lots of other candidates for the job as well.

McDaniels' resume, which includes six total Super Bowl rings earned as an assistant and coordinator, speaks for itself.

Kelly and Vrabel also have history. They both served as members of Bill O’Brien’s staff with the Houston Texans. Kelly rose up the ranks to offensive coordinator there and survived O’Brien’s firing but not David Culley’s a year later. Vrabel hired him in Tennessee, where he served as passing game coordinator in 2022 and OC in 2023.

“Yeah,” Vrabel responded on “The Greg Hill Show,” when asked if McDaniels was on his list of candidates. McDaniels has been connected to Vrabel since the beginning of the Patriots’ head coaching search. If he joins Vrabel’s staff, it would be his third stint with the team as an offensive coordinator.

Now that the Patriots have found their head coach in Mike Vrabel, Rob Gronkowski thinks his first hire should be a familiar face.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter told the WEEI Afternoon Show on Wednesday that former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is a “completely logical” choice for Mike Vrabel as his offensive coordinator in 2025.
