Despite widespread melting across Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley, some local schools are opting to close on Jan. 13.

As of 6:30 a.m., nearly 100 Arkansas & Oklahoma schools and businesses reported changes in operations. President Biden stood next to Gov. Gavin Newsom and pledged full federal support as fires burned through Los Angeles County.

Schools around central Arkansas are announcing closures as winter weather is expected to enter the state Thursday.

With the possibility of frozen precipitation in southwest Arkansas, area schools and government offices may announce closures as a measure of caution and to limit the amount of traffic on potentially icy roadways.
