Israel’s attack on Iran was long in the making – the result of years of meticulous planning by Israel and days of high-stakes talks between Tel Aviv and Washington, officials told CNN.
The Israel-Iran conflict has escalated into its fourth day with mounting casualties, widening attacks, and no sign of diplomatic resolution.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today that diplomacy was ultimately best on Iran, but stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire.
The statement said Putin, in his conversation with Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu "stressed the importance of a return to the process of talks and resolution of all issues concerning Iran's nuclear programme strictly through political and diplomatic means". The Kremlin statement said Russia would remain in close contact with both Iran and Israel.
After striking back on Friday night, Iran launched a new wave of strikes toward Israel on Saturday morning. Now, the two countries continue to exchange deadly missiles and threats, with fatalities and injuries reported on both sides.
